Background
Garcia de los Salmones (1914) zither under the name Cachiño in Boiro. The regulation of the Rías Baixas DEL takes it in the year 1987 as Caíño Tinto. Phyloxene studies show that it is derived from Caíño Bravo (Díaz-Losada et al., 2010).
Current situation
It is a variety of the IXP Ribeiras do Morrazo. Preferred variety in DD. OO Ribeiro, Ribeira Sacra, Rías Baixas, and Valdeorras, and in the geographical indication Viño de la Terra Barbanza and Iria. Its distribution is wide, extends from the Ulla and O Barbanza to A Guarda, along the river Miño, and is also present in the western area of the province of Ourense and reaches Baixa Limia.
